Hardcore

69 tracks · 41+ sets decoded

Hardcore is electronic music at maximum speed and maximum aggression. Evolving from rave culture in the early 1990s — particularly the UK hardcore and Belgian new beat scenes — hardcore pushed BPMs past 160 and eventually past 200, creating music more physically demanding than almost any other genre. The Dutch school dominated international hardcore from the mid-1990s: ID&T's events, Thunderdome compilations, and labels like Mokum Records exported gabber-adjacent sounds globally. Contemporary hardcore from labels like Enzyme Records and Traxtorm maintains the genre's confrontational physicality while incorporating industrial and noise influences. Hardcore DJs play to a passionate, knowledgeable audience for whom speed and impact are primary aesthetic values — the genre's dedicated festival circuit (Defqon.1, Qlimax) drawing tens of thousands annually. Mixprism's hardcore database reflects this community: tracking the most-decoded sets from specialists who have defined the genre's history.
